ラペルホールの意味とは

本日は

ジャケットの襟にあるボタンホール(ラペルホール）について

ラペルピンやバッジをつけお洒落を楽しまれる方も多くいらっしゃるでしょう。

このホールは実は昔違う使い方をされていたのです。

今はボタンホールの形が残っているものの穴が開けられていないものが多いと思いますが、

昔はしっかりと穴が開いておりました。

ボタンを通していたのです。

何故、どのようにと言いますと、

ジャケットの襟を立て、風除けの役割をしておりました。

立てた襟をキープする為に、襟に穴を開けボタンを通したのが始まりと言われております。

また、そのボタンホールには他の役割もございました。

フラワーホールとも言われるラペルホール、

プロポーズの時に活躍したようです。

昔、男性が女性にプロポーズする際一輪の花を贈ることが主流でした。

それを受け取った女性は答えがYESなら男性のラペルホールに受け取った花を挿し返すという使われ方もしておりました。

そこからフラワーホールとも言われるようになったのですね。

今は花を挿している人は見たことがありませんが、ロマンチックですね。

スーツにも歴史と由来がございます。知っているだけで違う見方やお洒落ができるのではないでしょうか。

In old days, people used it as different ways.

In the windy weather, they used to turn up collars of jackets.

When they turned up collars, they used buttons to keep up, so they made holes on the jackets.

The hole is named the lapel hole.

Gentlemen used to gift ladies a single flower when they do the marriage proposal.

If ladies’ answer were “YES”, they returned gifted flower into gentlemen’ lapel hole.

This is why a lapel hole is called a flower hole,

and it’s a romantic story about the jacket.
